Last month, I had the pleasure of visiting Three Forks Ranch along the Colorado–Wyoming border. I was invited along with a small group of travel advisors to experience this remarkable property, and it proved to be a hidden gem set on 200,000 private acres of pristine wilderness.
Upon arrival at Steamboat airport, I was warmly welcomed by my private driver and guide for the scenic 90-minute journey to the ranch. Along the way, she shared stories about wildlife, mountain ranges, and the history of the property itself. As a Florida girl, I couldn’t have been more excited to immerse myself in authentic ranch life surrounded by wide-open Western landscapes.

From the moment I arrived, it was clear this is not your typical ranch. It’s a refined, all-inclusive wilderness retreat designed for travelers who want authentic Western adventure paired with elevated luxury.
Accommodations, Service, and Activities
The lodge perfectly balances rustic charm with sophisticated comfort. Soaring timber ceilings and grand stone fireplaces fill the main guest areas, while the rooms and suites are beautifully designed with plush bedding, spacious bathrooms, and private decks overlooking wide-open landscapes. It feels intimate and exclusive, yet completely expansive at the same time. My suite even had its own outdoor hot tub, the perfect place to unwind beneath a canopy of stars.
Service at the ranch was truly top-notch. Every team member I encountered was attentive, personable, and radiated a sense of pride and genuine enjoyment in what they do. That level of hospitality is something you can feel and it elevated my entire experience.
Although we didn’t have snow during my visit, there was no shortage of activities. In fact, our days were so full that we hardly missed it! Three Forks Ranch offers an impressive lineup of year-round experiences:
Horseback riding through sweeping high-country terrain
Guided ATV adventures across rugged backcountry trails
Fly fishing on pristine private waters
Sporting clays and archery with expert instruction
Cattle experiences for an authentic ranch-life perspective
Hiking and wildlife viewing with breathtaking panoramic views
Because of the ranch’s immense size, every activity feels private and unhurried. There are no crowds, just open space and personalized guiding tailored to your interests and pace.
In winters blessed with typical snowfall (unlike during my stay), the ranch transforms into a private alpine playground. Guests can enjoy guided downhill skiing on exclusive slopes with no lift lines, snowcat skiing, snowmobiling through powder-filled backcountry, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and even ice fishing. It’s an intimate, highly customized alternative to traditional ski resorts, ideal for clients who love winter adventure but value privacy and bespoke service.
One of my personal highlights was the spa. The indoor lap pool, infused with millions of oxygen microbubbles, the hydrotherapy circuit with individual stations, hot tubs, steam rooms, and a thoughtfully curated treatment menu create a restorative sanctuary after active days outdoors. And the best part? Activities and daily spa treatments are included.
Dining, Wellness, and Final Impressions
Dining at Three Forks Ranch is equally exceptional. Regionally inspired cuisine is thoughtfully prepared and paired with an impressive wine list. Whether dining in the Bistro, at the Chef’s Table, or in the Formal Dining Room, each meal feels relaxed yet refined. It’s the kind of culinary experience that surprises guests who don’t expect this level of sophistication in such a remote setting.

One of the most unique aspects of Three Forks Ranch is its partnership with Mayo Clinic. Through this collaboration, guests have access to cutting-edge wellness and longevity programs designed with Mayo Clinic expertise. For clients who are increasingly focused on living well and aging well, this adds a meaningful layer to the stay (at an additional fee).
Three Forks Ranch is ideal for:
Families seeking an immersive Western adventure with luxury comforts
Couples desiring privacy and meaningful shared experiences
Multi-generational groups
Friends traveling together where unforgettable experiences are the focus
Clients who love destinations like Montana or Jackson Hole but prefer something more exclusive and fully inclusive
The setting is cinematic, the hospitality is genuine, and the experiences are deeply memorable, snow or no snow.
If you’re considering a distinctive U.S. escape that blends adventure, privacy, and elevated comfort, this is one I wholeheartedly recommend. I fell in love with Three Forks Ranch the moment I arrived and I cannot wait for you to experience it for yourself!
